Formation

The work of following Christ in simplicity, love and joy, is the vocation of all Christians.  The Ecumenical Order of Saints Francis and Clare seeks to bring together people from all walks of life and a variety of theological perspectives who find themselves drawn to a life infused with the Spirit of Christ, as exemplified by St. Francis and St. Clare.  When a person senses this call to live a more disciplined life in the Spirit and to focus on the simplicity Christ holds forth, then perhaps the fellowship of this Community is what they may need for their journey with God.

Our purpose is to grow in the love and knowledge of God. We commit to this in a community that supports us with a Rule that will guide and instruct us. In the process of getting to know the other members and, God willing, choosing to join with us, the meaning of community becomes clear.

Inquirer

This is the first step in discerning whether one is called to community life in the Order.  Inquirers participate in the common life of prayer, study, and fellowship of the Order and support the other Inquirers and friars in their shared spiritual journey.  After sufficient discernment, the Inquirer may apply to be accepted as a novice.

Novice

As members of the Order, novices continue to participate in the common life of prayer, study, and fellowship.  They begin a period of more intense study and immersion in Franciscan spirituality and the Order’s charism.

Profession

At the conclusion of the novitiate, and acceptance by the Order, vows are professed (either annually or for life).  Spiritual development and religious formation remain an ongoing process within the context of community life.
